DIN Technical Reports 101-104 for Bridge Construction

The DIN technical reports 101 to 104 introduced on 1 May 2003 are binding for the areas of federal highways, federal waterways and the federal railroad (Bahn AG).

The Bridge Check According to DIN Technical Report module of the InfoCAD program system implements DIN technical report 101 (Actions) and DIN technical report 102 (Concrete Bridges).

The module is used to conduct checks for any beam or shell structure. Elements with no prestress as well as prestressed elements with subsequent bond, without bond, with external prestressing and in mixed construction can be analyzed.

  • Consideration of any stresses and loading
  • Special preparation of the load module LM 1
  • Automatic combination of the actions according to DIN technical report 101
    - Construction and final states for all action combinations
    - Optionally user-defined actions
  • Checks at the ultimate limit state DIN technical report 102
    - Minimum reinforcement for ensuring robustness
    - Bending with or without longitudinal force or longitudinal force alone
    - Lateral force under consideration of the minimum level of reinforcement
    - Pure torsion and torsion with lateral force
    - Check against fatigue (concrete, bending, shearing and
torsion reinforcement as well as for tendons)
  • Checks at the serviceability limit state DIN technical report 102
    - Minimum reinforcement for the crack width limitation
    - Limiting the crack width through direct calculation
    - Check of the decompression
    - Limiting the concrete compressive stress
    - Limiting the reinforcing steel stresses
    - Limiting the prestressing steel stresses
    - Check of the inclined main tensile stresses
A detailed description with an example can be found in the DIN Technical Report Manual.

Example:

A double-girder prestressed T-beam bridge is processed using the following steps:

  • Selection of structure type and check specifications
  • Input of load model 1
  • Definition of actions
  • Design and checks according to DIN technical report 101 und 102 with
    - Minimum reinforcement for ensuring robustness,
    - Longitudinal reinforcement at the ultimate limit state,
    - Shear reinforcement at the ultimate limit state,
under consideration of the minimum level of reinforcement,
    - Minimum reinforcement for the crack width limit,
    - Check of the crack widths using direct calculation,
    - Check against fatigue.

Static system for the DIN technical report The system preparation, input of the load and guiding of the tendon group follow the normal procedures and are not explained here in greater detail.

First set the properties regarding the structure and sections:

According to FB 101 and 102, the object under scrutiny is a 'street bridge' made of 'concrete'.

For the main girders the requirement class 'C' is set:

General check specifications

Check specifications for crack check

Load model 1 clearly describes the placement of the tandem system and the UDL loads on the bridge. In the model you can define any number of variations or lane configurations:

Load model 1, 1st variation

The distance between vehicles, the load distribution height and the centrifugal load of the tandem systems are automatically taken into consideration.

The load model 1 as well as the other load cases now only need to be assigned to the corresponding actions. The program then creates the desired action combinations on its own.

Definition of the action combinations

The next step in the program is to combine the actions, design the system components and conduct the corresponding checks. The results can be presented graphically and can also be documented in a detailed log.

Maximum value of the upper and lower longitudinal reinforcement resulting from robustness, bending with normal force, crack check and fatigue:

Utilization of the allowable stress range:

Stresses from the decompression check:
