Crack Width Limitation According to DIN 1045-1

Crack formation is essentially unavoidable in areas where concrete is subject to tensile stress. However, the crack width should be limited such that proper use of the structure as well as its appearance and durability are not compromised as a result of cracks.

The limitation of crack widths according to [1] DIN 1045-1 July 2001 Section 11.2 contains the following checks:
  • Check of the minimum reinforcement according to [1] Section 11.2.2,
  • Check of the crack width limitation given the determinant action combination according to [1] Section 11.2.3 (Limiting the crack width without direct calculation)
  • Check of the crack width limitation given the determinant action combination according to [1] Section 11.2.4 (Calculation of the crack width)
